Let me introduce myself. My name is Craig Slabach, a native of Sarasota, and owner of Slabach Home Inspections of Sarasota. Having grown up in a building construction family, I have extensive background and experience in building construction. I was swinging a hammer even before I could swing a bat. I started playing baseball when I was 6 years old.
Experience
My experience includes framing and trim carpentry in local residential construction for various local home builders, including roof construction. I have also worked in the permitting department for a national home builder, drawing and reviewing plans, collecting documents required for building permits. I have drawn plans that involve architectural and structural aspects of homes. I can honestly say I know houses inside and out.
I have been performing fee-paid home inspections since I joined the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) in January 2009.
Starting in October, 2010 I was a participating contractor in the Sarasota County Get Energy Smart Rebate program. This was a program that provided rebates for various home improvements that increased the home’s energy efficiency. I provided the HERS rating and improvement evaluation for those seeking a rebate for a new air conditioner or heat pump. This program has since ended.
Green Training
I have received training at the Florida Solar Energy Center, which has served as the state’s energy research institute since 1975, for the following:
-
Florida Green Home Designation Certification on behalf of the Florida Green Building Coalition.
-
WaterSense Inspector training for new homes, designed to work with other green building programs, allows me to determine relative water efficiency in the home
